Rex Merriweather, born in Chicago, IL, picked up the trumpet at age 10. He has had some amazing teachers, such as: Barbara Buehlman, Donald E. Casey, Niel Dunlap, Bruce Mack and Clint “Pop’s” McLaughlin.
Rex now resides in Los Angeles as a free lance musician, featured on CD’s, sound tracks for both film and television and leader of his own band, “This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Big Band”. Rex is also an arranger and award winning composer. Other instruments added to his arsenal include: flugelhorn, trombone, valve trombone, slide trumpet, piccolo trumpet, electric trumpet, pocket trumpet, herald trumpet and tuba.
Rex can also be heard playing with "Stone Soul", a 50's/60's soul cover band, and "The Swingin' SophistiCats," one of L.A.'s hottest swing bands.
He has opened for Maynard Ferguson, Foreigner, Mitch Rider and the Detroit Wheels, Michael Drake, Worlds Most Dangerous Band, Buddy Miles, Stan Kenton and Steve Morse.
